Once the lab reports your negative drug or alcohol test, you secure your fifth checkmark. As a result, your profile status changes from “Prohibited” to “Not Prohibited.”

Option 2: Navigating a Post-Downgrade Reinstatement

Perhaps your local DMV or SDLA already issued a commercial license downgrade on your record. In this scenario, your recovery requires a few extra administrative steps:

1. First, you must still fully complete the DOT Return-to-Duty process with a certified SAP.
2. Next, you must coordinate directly with your local state DMV after the Clearinghouse clears your status.
3. Finally, you will need to settle their specific state requirements, pay your reinstatement fees, and reclaim your commercial privileges.
